The European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) is one of the world's leading associations in the field of implant dentistry. With its work, the Association aims to improve the quality of patient care by building a bridge between science and clinical practice. The highlight is always the annual EAO Congress, which was finally able to take place face to face again this year and attract participants from seven continents. Geistlich was present as a platinum sponsor and surprised congress participants with a series of new initiatives at the booth and on stage.
True to the motto “Connecting Minds and Hands”, a series of practical workshops took place during the congress breaks. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Mukta Sandu, Scientific Education Manager at Geistlich, participants were able to perform transplants with Geistlich biomaterials on the jaw model directly at the congress booth. All sessions were fully booked.
The regeneration specialist also came up with something new for the Geistlich Symposium: Organized as a “battle of concepts,” two speakers representing opposing regeneration strategies were invited on stage to guide the audience through their arguments. In this session, the participants could watch Daniele Cardaropoli (IT) defending ridge preservation with delayed implant placement vs. Edith Groenendijk (NL) who advocated filling the gap at immediate implants. This session was followed by Dr. Hélène Arnal (FR), who guided the audience through her decision-making process of when to choose between resorbable and non-resorbable membranes for the treatment of complex 3D bony defects.
Both sessions were moderated by Prof. Mariano Sanz (ES), who also chaired the final panel discussion with the three speakers. That the choice of the symposium concept had been successful was confirmed by the more than 350 participants who were glued to their seats until the end.
