The company Osstem launched a bone replacement material in 2013 on the South Korean market under the name B-Oss. This name and the product’s packaging were very similar to that of Geistlich Bio-Oss®. Geistlich tried to reach a settlement with Osstem for infringement of the Bio-Oss® trademark rights and unfair competition. Following a number of hearings, Osstem ultimately agreed on 12 May 2014 to a court settlement at the Seoul Central District Court.
This success underlines the strength of the trademark Bio-Oss®. Geistlich Pharma defends its trademarks rights in order to protect its Swiss quality products from unfair competition.
